The initiative is designed to reduce Europe's dependence on US and Chinese compute providers and give European companies and regulated industries access to sovereign, high-performance AI infrastructure they can control.

The FCC Just Banned New Chinese Robots From Entering the US

The FCC banned imports of new foreign-made humanoid robots, quadruped ‘robot dogs,’ and internet-connected power inverters, effective July 28, 2026, citing national security risks. The agency cited a prior vulnerability in one robot category that exposed camera feeds, microphone audio, and floor plans for thousands of devices in homes worldwide. China's commerce ministry said the rule would “severely undermine the stability of China-U.S. economic and trade relations.”

Why it matters: Companies sourcing robotics or embedded hardware from Chinese suppliers face immediate procurement disruption and should audit supply chains now — this is a trade-war flashpoint, not a one-off regulatory footnote.

China's Moonshot AI Gives Away the World's Largest Open-Source Model — for Free

China's Moonshot AI published open-source weights for Kimi K3, a 2.8-trillion-parameter model with a 1-million-token context window, on July 26 — a day ahead of its own target. Moonshot claims K3 performs competitively with Anthropic's Fable 5 and outperforms OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol and Anthropic's Opus 4.8 on its own benchmarks. Google DeepMind Gives Humanoid Robots Full-Body Control

Google DeepMind unveiled Gemini Robotics ER 2 on July 30, an AI model that lets humanoid robots coordinate movement across their entire body rather than controlling only the upper half as prior models did. The advance targets one of the hardest remaining problems in humanoid deployment: full-body dexterity for tasks that combine walking with object manipulation.

Why it matters: Whole-body control is a prerequisite for humanoid robots to work unsupervised on warehouse and factory floors — this narrows the timeline for labor substitution in logistics and light manufacturing.
